Cargo Traffic

More cargo than ever before ›

A total of 15.2 million tonnes of goods were transported via the Port of Helsinki group. This surpassed the previous record by a clear margin, and the volume grew more than the market at large.

The total number of passengers at the Port of Helsinki was 8.1 million, doubling from the previous year. Ship travel is bouncing back well after the pandemic.

The Port of Helsinki set an even tighter timetable for its carbon neutrality goals. At the same time, actions were taken to pursue the objectives, the most significant of which was the completion of onshore power connections on West Terminal 2 for liner traffic vessels.

Promoting occupational well-being ›

The occupational well-being development plan was promoted: the principles of management defined and the management promises summarized. A job satisfaction survey showed that there was a clear improvement in the things that matter most to the Port’s employees in their work.

Positive economic impacts on society

The Port of Helsinki has significant positive impacts on the regional economy and the entirety of Finland. The Port of Helsinki Ltd aims to strengthen these impacts through its own activities.

The Port of Helsinki is an important logistics hub that serves the business sector of the Helsinki region, with a significant positive impact on the regional economy and employment.

The total economic impact of the Port is EUR 4.1 billion per year, and the employment impact in maritime and port-related jobs is 25,100 person-years.
The port operations of the capital also have a significant effect on the well-being of all of Finland. In addition to the regional effects, the effects of the cargo and passenger transport through the ports of Helsinki spread through practically all of Finland.
The Port of Helsinki is the largest port in Finland in terms of both general cargo and passenger traffic: Helsinki accounts for about 80 per cent of passenger traffic between mainland Finland and other countries, and the Port of Helsinki accounts for about half of the total tonnage of Finnish ports in general cargo traffic.
